Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The Legislature has decided to adjourn sine die today - Friday, April 24. The governor has called a special session to begin next Wednesday, April 29. There remains some big differences between the House Democrats' and Senate Republicans' operating budget proposals. The biggest difference is that the House Democrats, along with Gov. Inslee, want to raise taxes up to $1.5 billion, despite the record amount of revenue coming into the state this year - $3 billion or a 9 percent increase. Here is a chart comparing the two operating budget proposals.
This special session can last up to 30 days, but it's not necessary to take all 30 days. I am hopeful we can reach an agreement on the operating, capital and transportation budget in the next couple weeks.
I also provide more details in on the budget differences in my video this week, click Condotta's Video Update, to get the details.
Sincerely,
Cary Condotta
